It’s a simple idea but one
that has proved to be very effective. Every week we ask people in
the church to purchase one extra item of tinned food or toiletries
when they do their usual weekly supermarket shop. We collect all
these goods at church on Sunday and are then able to make a one-off
emergency food gift from our Storehouse to those who, for whatever
reason, find themselves without the money to buy the basic
essentials. Our Food Storehouse is also supported by local schools
donating their harvest festival produce, and other local
organisations who place food collection points in their offices.
Usually, people are referred to
us by the social services, the local council or community groups but
it may be through a personal contact in the church. There are lots
of people in need in this area and we have found that a gift of a
box of food goes a long way to saying that someone cares. More than
that, it’s a simple way of showing people that God is concerned for them
and wants to meet their needs.
Our Clothing Storehouse has proved to be a big
success. Since it was first opened in 1998, we have been able to bless
many families with the free gift of clothing. Over 1000 adults and
children have benefited from this service to date.
We are located at Unit 8 Osier Way, Park Street
Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. We are open Tuesday and Thursday mornings or by appointment Monday to Thursday. Families are
invited to drop in from 9.45am – 11.30am for a coffee and to
browse through the clothes.
The Storehouse holds a wide range of good quality,
second-hand clothing for babies and children, and a smaller range
for teenagers and adults. Items of baby equipment and toys are also
available. Families can choose 3 items of clothing per person in
their immediate family, making a return visit to the Storehouse
every six months. We do not charge for this service as we see it as
a way of assisting local families and meeting their needs in a
practical way.

We have a range of basic furniture items in our
Furniture Storehouse which we are also able to give to people for free. These have all
been donated to us from local people. We have been able to assist many people in need in our
community, for example young people moving out of care into council housing,
ex-prisoners or
single parents who are unable to fully furnish their accommodation.
We are also able to provide a delivery and collection service.
We stock many other items which help relieve the pressure for
families on a tight budget. These include bedding, towels, light
fittings, kitchenware, crockery and cutlery. If you have
furniture that you would like to donate and that is in good
condition and complies with current regulations, then
please contact us on 01296 424440, Monday to Thursday afternoons. We can
arrange collection if necessary.
With the help of government funding, through the
Buckinghamshire Foundation, we have developed an exciting project in
partnership with Aylesbury's Young Offenders Institution.
Young prisoners in the arts and crafts workshop
construct toy boxes and refurbish small items of furniture which we then freely distribute to those in need in the community.
This project is enabling the young men to learn valuable new skills
while at the same time giving them the opportunity to make a real
and practical difference to people's lives. In giving something back
to the community, they are growing in their self-worth and
discovering their creativity.
If you have any simple items like chairs and small
wooden units that would be suitable for this project please contact
us.
